Climate change – the reality we now face implores us to act
Hi lovely people
It´s hard to see the news, know the reality and experience the effects of global warming on daily basis. And at the same time see the humans completely occupied with themselves, social media, consumerism that they can´t see what´s happening right in front of them. This is how something in me change forever and why I don´t want to wait around anymore for someone to fix our planet, without even trying to do something little myself.
Start with Why
We had one of those workshops that was supposed to motivate, connect us and give us a common goal and passion inside the company. There were around 30 people in the room and at the beginning of the presentation; they played Simon Sinek´s Ted talk “Start With Why-great leaders inspire action”
“Because when we discover our WHY, we are able to find the clarity and confidence to choose the careers, organizations, communities and relationships that are most likely to inspire us.” and also that “Values are not simply posters on a wall. For the culture to be strong, your values must be strong, your values must be clear and your values must be lived.” S.Sinek
This speech, that I saw many times before, started the opposite reaction of thoughts as the hoped for and made it pretty clear to me that my values are not the same as theirs. My Why is not their Why.
Climate Reality training
When was the last time I felt a sense of belonging, understanding, inspiring, connecting with a big group of people? When did a cause and a speech inspire me so much, like this speech did some of the coworkers in this room? And when was I in a group that has the same “Why” as me? It was without a doubt at the Climate change Reality training in Berlin.
A person simply can´t walk away from Al Gores talk and everything they learn at the training and continue to live life like nothing happened. I don´t think anybody can. It changed me, it inspired me, it connected me with like-minded people and gave me the push to do more. There were around 800 people in that room and I felt the connection and community. We had our common Why; saving our planet or at least trying to do so.
You can watch Al Gores talk right here.
If you have a chance go to Climate Reality training and learn, ask, get inspired, connect, cry, and laugh, get a dose of hope and get the tools to inspire others. Become a Spokesperson for the fight against climate change, become a climate reality leader.
Climate change
Rising global average temperature is associated with widespread changes in weather patterns. Scientific studies indicate that extreme weather events such as heat waves and large storms are likely to become more frequent or more intense with human-induced climate change. We have a moral responsibility to each other and to our children to address this crisis. This is our one beautiful and deeply precious home.
It´s not easy to talk about climate change to people, people don´t want to hear anything negative, people don´t want to know the truth. Or maybe they all simply became OK with us destroying our planet and hoping it still stays together during their lifetime. Photos, videos and facts are not easy to take in. But running away from reality will not save anyone from high temperatures, extreme floods, droughts, fires, hurricanes, air and water pollution, ….
The world is changing. Just step outside, what do you see? Is it hot? Are their wildfires near you? Heavy rainstorms? We can see the effects of climate change everywhere, that´s why we shouldn´t be discussing whether climate change and global warming is real or not, but be at the point where we all start doing something for this beautiful planet and step towards a clean future with renewable energy. Let´s support and influence the companies to do the same, fly less, drive less, eat less or no meat, eat locally produced food, use less plastic, less plastic cheap clothes, compost your food, … If you know Why you want to do it, it´s really not hard to switch.
What are some of the best moments of your life? What made you feel alive? Is it surfing, snowboarding, traveling, having a child, … al that is at risk. If we want to protect all that, we need to protect the environment.
Earth overshoot day
3 days ago on the 1st of August was Earth overshoot day. Earth Overshoot Day marks the date when we (all of humanity) have used more from nature than our planet can renew in the entire year.
We are using 1.7 Earths. We use more ecological resources and services that nature can regenerate through overfishing, overharvesting forests, and emitting more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere than ecosystems can absorb.
Solving Climate Change: most existential crisis civilization has known; should be our common Why. And the only way to solve problems is with optimism. There are great things happening as well, there is so much inovation and research being done. But we all need to do our part and help out. We need to be aware of our daily choices (transport, electricity, food, clothes…) we need to look around and make changes in our lives that will improve our quality of life, health and the health of the planet.

It is one of life’s greatest joys to wake up in the morning…
every morning,
With a clear sense of why that day matters,
why every day matters.
This is what it means to find your WHY.
This is the start of an inspiring journey…
your inspiring journey.
Have a nice weekend, go outside and connect with nature.
Thank you,
Mateja
